Root is more than just a microgreenery. We are on a mission to change the world. What started as a hobby, quickly became an obsession and that obsession quickly became the beachhead to fund Root's ambitious goals.

Created out of necessity, Root's vision of what the future of Urban Farming should look like, started to take form. After month's of number crunching and constant redesigning of business models, what came out of it was a truly revolutionary.

The creation of the world’s first indoor co-farming space, utilizing Hydroponics-as-a-Service. A place where novice and expert Urban Farmers can come to grow thier own food, shielded from the harsh elements, supported by the community and supported by knowledgable professionals from seed to post-harvest. Year-round.

Pink Energy Group was founded out of the desire to positively impact our environment and communities while sharing the joy of giving back. We aim to provide a viable alternative to organic waste disposal by working alongside municipalities and food producers to convert food waste into a nutrient rich organic soil conditioner.

Pink Energy is focused on the future. After traveling the world, we witnessed first-hand the effects of climate change on the natural environment. The food waste urban communities currently generate contributes substantially to global warming by producing huge quantities of methane, a greenhouse gas that is twenty times worse for the atmosphere than carbon dioxide. After settling in Chicago, we were inspired to start a company that would address the problem by collecting waste and converting it into usable energy, eventually returning it back to the very communities that supplied it.

Spira seeks to solve the basic human need of food. Using filamentous cyanobacteria as a platform, we are working to provide a better-tasting, more nutritious, and cost-effective staple food source that is accessible to all.
Our vision is to reduce carbon emissions, provide access to a healthy protein and micronutrient source, and create employment and food-security to communities at-risk of malnutrition.

With 5% of all food sold certified organic, biofertilizers are a $1B industry, growing at 40% per year. SymSoil Inc has patented a scalable process to manufacture the most valuable and sought-after type of biofertilizer, with the lowest costs in the industry.

The start-up idea seemed so simple, the founder’s backyard and the surrounding area bordered the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, which has a broad diversity of fungi and the exact soil microbe ecosystem described by Dr. Ingham as the Soil Food Web.

How hard to could it be to cultivate the soils and make them available to local organic farmers? After all, a handful of healthy soil has literally billions of species. Across the street from the backyard where SymSoil started was a woodpile, which over a decade had sprouted dozens of different types of mushrooms. There was two feet of redwood litter next to the carport and rotting oak trees on the nearby trails.

At the time of SymSoil's conception, thoughts of a facility with thousands of cubic yards in annual production and hundreds of thousands of dollars-worth of equipment weren't on the radar. SymSoil was not yet connected with the the multiple regulatory agencies with responsibility for protecting the public from runoff water and waste streams, as it is now.

Simply put, SymSoil started as a dream to do its part to help the planet. Before long, SymSoil had a full team setting microbe traps bring the wild, indigenous microbes into a number of compost piles and quickly outgrew the backyard in which the dream had begun.
